Instructions
This is a layered jello shot recipe; you’ll be making 3 layers. Each layer takes about 10 minutes to prepare and 30-45 minutes to set.
To Make The Orange Layer
- Bring 1 cup of water to boil in a small saucepan. When water starts to boil, pour into a heat-safe mixing bowl with the orange gelatin mix. Whisk until all of the gelatin has dissolved.
- Stir in the cold water and the rum.
- Pour the orange jello mixture into your plastic cups, so they are about 1/3 of the way full. Place the cups on a baking sheet and into the fridge to set for 30-45 minutes.
To Make The White Layer
- Add 1/4 cup of cold water and 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin to a medium mixing bowl. Allow to sit for 5 minutes.
- Whisk in 1/2 cup of boiling water until gelatin dissolves.
- Whisk in the sweetened condensed milk and the coconut rum. Allow to cool to room temperature, but not enough for the jello to start setting up.
- Take the jello shots out of the fridge and pour the white mixture on top of the orange layer, so the cups are now 2/3 of the way full.
- Return the tray to the fridge to set for another 30-45 minutes.
3rd Layer – Yellow Layer
- In a heat-safe bowl, whisk together 1 cup boiling water and the pineapple gelatin, until completely dissolved.
- Stir in the cold water and rum. Allow to cool to room temperature, but not so much that the jello starts to set.
- Remove the tray of jello shots from the fridge and pour the yellow layer on top of the white layer. Place one maraschino cherry on top of each.
- Place the tray back in the fridge until the jello shots are completely set.

Prep Tips
- It is important to allow each gelatin mixture to cool a bit before you add to the cups. If you pour hot gelatin liquid on top of the layer before it, this may cause melting and the layers to blend.
- You can use any type of rum for this recipe! We used light rum or white rum for the orange and pineapple layers and coconut rum (such as Malibu) for the coconut layer. Alternatively, you could use coconut rum for all 3 layers (if you only want to buy one bottle of rum). You could also use golden rum in place of the light rum.
- Make this a truly decadent treat by adding a dollop of whipped cream on top of each cup, immediately before serving.
- Jello shots can be stored in the fridge for up to one week. If keeping in the refrigerator longer than a few hours, I recommend covering them.
