Tequila cocktails have become quite trendy these days and one of my new favorites is the tequila punch. Tequila punch is a sweet and sour drink that’s made with citrus juices, fresh fruit, soda or ginger ale, and of course, tequila!
One of the great things about this recipe is that it’s easy to make a single serving in a cocktail shaker or to whip up a big batch for a party. You can also customize it with different types of fruits and juices.

Instructions
- Pour coarse salt or margarita salt onto a small plate or saucer.
- Run a lemon wedge along the rim of your glass, then flip the glass upside-down and press the rim into the plate of salt.
- Add tequila, juices, and a couple slices of fresh fruit to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well for a few seconds to chill, then pour contents of the shaker into your prepared glass.
- Top with ginger ale or soda and garnish with a lemon or grapefruit wedge.
Prep Tips
- For a less sweet drink, try using club soda instead of ginger ale.
- When making a pitcher, you can freeze fruit juice to use instead of regular ice cubes. This helps prevent the drink from getting watered down during a party.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can You Make Different Flavors?
Here are some variations of the basic tequila punch recipe:
- Blueberry lime tequila punch: This variation adds blueberries and lime juice to the basic tequila punch recipe.
- Margarita tequila punch: This variation adds lime juice and orange liqueur to the basic tequila punch recipe.
You can try other flavors too, using different types of fruit and juices. This is an easy recipe to customize for different occasions or to use what you have on hand at home!
What Is The Best Type of Tequila To Use for Tequila Punch?
Any type of tequila will work to make tequila punch! Because it is mixed with juices and fruit, tequila punch can make a cheap tequila taste delicious! On that same note, I wouldn’t recommend using a top shelf brand because you’re mixing it with so many things. I generally use a middle of the road brand that’s drinkable and not too pricey. Use what YOU like!
Is Tequila Punch The Same Thing As A Paloma?
Tequila punch and the paloma are both tequila-based cocktails and both feature grapefruit juice, but they have a few key differences.
- Ingredients: Tequila punch is typically made with tequila, a combination of juices, and club soda or ginger ale. A paloma is also made with tequila and sparkling water, but only uses grapefruit juice.
- Flavor: Tequila punch is typically sweeter and more fruity than a paloma. A paloma is more tart and grapefruit-forward, with the lime juice adding a touch of acidity. A paloma can be made sweeter with lemon lime soda.
- Serving: Tequila punch can be served in a large pitcher or punch bowl. And while a paloma could be made in a bigger batch, it is rarely served as such.
If you like sweet drinks, go with the tequila punch. If you like tarter and more tequila-forward, go with the paloma.
