Purple Rain Cocktail

The Purple Rain Cocktail is a sweet vodka cocktail that is bright purple in color. The vibrant purple is a result of mixing Blue Curacao and Grenadine, which also add a blend of fruity flavors to the drink. Lemonade and a splash of lemon-lime soda add tartness which keeps the drink from being too sweet. Be careful, this one is easy to drink and can totally sneak up on you!

There is another version of the Purple Rain cocktail that is essentially a Long Island Ice Tea, but with raspberry liqueur to change the color. When I learned to bartend, that was simply called a “Raspberry Long Island” and I learned to make the Purple Rain with the ingredients listed below.

Ingredients

• 2oz Vodka
• 2oz Lemonade
• 1/2oz Blue Curacao
• 1/2oz Grenadine
• Lemon-lime soda to top

• Cocktail Jigger (for measuring liquor amounts)

Instructions

1. Add vodka, lemonade, Blue Curacao, and Grenadine to a cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Shake to mix.
3. Pour the contents of the shaker into a cocktail glass.
4. Top off the drink with lemon-lime soda.

Prep Tips

• Vodka – You can use any type of vodka that you prefer. This recipe also works great with flavored vodka, such as grape vodka or berry vodka.
• Sweetness – For a sweeter drink, add more grenadine and/or blue curacao. For a less sweet drink, add less grenadine. Keep in mind that using less of the grenadine and/or blue curacao will make the cocktail a lighter purple hue.
• Garnish – There is not really a “traditional” garnish for the Purple Rain cocktail, so you can get creative with it! I love to serve with maraschino cherries and a lemon wedge. You can also add a colorful sugar rim to the drink to make it stand out even more. Purple sanding sugar would be a fun touch!
• Make it a Shot – This drink makes a great shot recipe! To do so, add all ingredients except the lemon-lime soda to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into 2oz shot glasses.
