Apple Martini

Sour Apple Martini aka “Appletini”

The apple martini, or appletini, is a staple on cocktail menus at restaurants and bars. Vodka is blended with sour apple schnapps, a touch of lime juice, and simple syrup to create a drink that tastes like an Apple Jolly Rancher in liquid form. It’s also bright green in color, so it LOOKS like a sour apple candy too! What a fun drink!

The appletini is one of the first cocktails that I ordered for myself in a restaurant when I turned 21 years old. It’s sweet and sour and packs a little bit of a punch. Because it has a rich fruit flavor, the apple martini is an easy drinker (so be careful!) and that’s probably why I enjoyed it so much in my college days!

Fun Fact: The Appletini is not actually a true martini, as a martini by definition is made with gin and vermouth. However, since it is usually strained and served in a martini glass, the appletini is often called and apple martini.

appletini ingredients, with text labels: apple schnapps, apples, vodka, lime juice, simple syrup

Instructions

  1. Add the Apple pucker, vodka, lime juice & simple syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well to chill.
  3. Strain and pour into a martini glass.
  4. Garnish with and apple slice or maraschino cherry.

Prep Tips

  • To keep your apple slices from turning brown, spray them or dip them in citrus juice. Lemon juice, lime juice, or even lemon-lime soda would work.
  • An alternative garnish for an appletini is a maraschino cherry dropped in the glass. This is often how I see it served at restaurants.
  • For a stronger drink, use less apple schnapps. For a sweeter drink, use a touch more simple syrup.
  • While an appletini is usually served straight-up in a martini glass, you can also serve this on the rocks. If serving as a cocktail over ice, this one tastes fabulous with a splash of lemon-lime soda.
